In Brief: Tragedy in Houston – Photos, How to Help, Lessons

Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, has been brought to its knees by flooding from Hurricane/Tropic Storm Harvey.  Below are some of the amazing images of the massive devastation.  What is most alarming, however, is that this is only the mid-point of the crisis, as another 20 or more inches are due to fall on the Bayou City.

If Houston were a state it would be the 9th largest in terms of GDP.  It is a major port and transportation hub so this storm will have ripple effects throughout the U.S. economy. See Harvey could have deep impact on Texas oil, US economy.

Just as with Hurricane Katrina where there were reports beforehand warning what a major hurricane could do to New Orleans, it appears that Houston has been on notice since Hurricane Ike in 2008.  See details below.
